Last year, following the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis, the City of Green Bay and the Police Department approved the purchase of some new body cameras, and they are now being utilized.
While not all officers are currently wearing them, a small contingent of officers is being trained on how to use them.
It is estimated that by mid-June, every officer will be wearing one on every patrol.
The cameras will record anytime an officer has an interaction with a member of the public, both for the officer’s safety and for the citizen’s safety.
The company that supplied the cameras, Axon, was also tasked with supplying the Department with Tasers and dash cameras.
