Voters are heading out to the polls today casting ballots in several local and state contested races.
In Manitowoc, Mayor Justin Nickels is seeking his fourth four-year term and is being challenged by former Alderman and retired teacher Chris Able.
On the Common Council, Scott Pelot and Tim Boldt are vying for a two-year term to represent District Seven. Incumbent Arron Bailey was eliminated in the February Primary. Brett Vanderkin in District One, Chad Beeman in District Two, Michael Cummings in District Three, and Todd Reckelberg in District Ten are running unopposed.
However-Theresa Schmitt and Theresa Collins in Districts One and Three respectively remain on the ballot. Theresa Collins says she will “honor the vote” if elected. They both dropped out of the race last month and it is too late to take their names off the ballot.
Eight candidates are vying for four open seats on the Manitowoc Public School District Board Of Education. They are Collin Braunel, Rhonda Neumann, Kerry Trask, Stacy Soeldner, Lisa Johnston, Richard Nitsch, Aaron Erdmann and Timothy Reis.
In Two Rivers, voters in Wards seven and eight will vote on the MPSD Referendum and their choices to sit on the Manitowoc School Board. All voters will vote on who to fill three open seats on the City Council. Candidates are Curt Andrews, Jeff Dahlke and Tracey Koach while Zak Petersen and Maria Veldre are vying for the position of Two Rivers Public School District Commissioner.
The state contested races are for Superintendent of Schools where Jill Underly is opposed by Deborah Kerr while Shelly Grogan and Jeffrey Davis are vying for a seat on the District Two Court of Appeals. Polls close at 8 p.m.
