Between January 1st and April 1st of 2020, there were 86 non-fatal shootings in Milwaukee.
This year the number is almost double that – 153.
Wisconsin’s largest city has been trying to reduce violence for several years with limited effect.
The head of the Milwaukee Office of Violence Prevention says 54-percent of those shooting happen inside a 5.5 square-mile area bordered by Capitol Drive, Vine Street, 48th Street, and 10th.
One in every five shootings involved drugs in some way and three-fourths of them were outside.
