
MONDAY
– Manitowoc Public Utilities has earned a Reliable Public Power provider designation from the American Public Power Association for providing reliable and safe electric service. The RP3 recognition, which lasts for three years, recognizes public power utilities that demonstrate proficiency in four key disciplines: reliability, safety, workforce development and system improvement.
– Manitowoc’s Grow it Forward has begun handing out more food boxes through a USDA program. Click here to learn more about the Farmers to Families program, and when you can get your food box.
– Spring cleaning time is here for the city of Manitowoc’s Evergreen Cemetery. The city is asking residents to help by clearing away winter decorations to help maintain the beauty of the area. Lot owners are being asked to have this done by April 15. Winter decorations not removed by then will be disposed of.
– Road America announced recently that Johnsonville Sausage has returned as a landmark sponsor of the well-recognized Turn 9 Bridge and as the official sausage of Road America. Also, tickets for the 2021 racing season are now available at www.RoadAmerica.com.
TUESDAY
– Last week, the State Legislature passed a couple of COVID-19 related bills. Assemblyman Paul Tittl explained the bills, and why they were important. Also, Veterans are now able to receive the COVID-19 vaccine through the VA, however, there are some caveats, as Manitowoc County Veteran Service Officer Todd Brehmer explained. – Another major milestone has been reached in the battle against COVID-19. On Thursday, March 25th, Holy Family Memorial in Manitowoc gave out their 10,000th dose of COVID vaccine. The vaccination was given to Dawn Rauen, who noted that it was “a privilege to get vaccinated, to be safe for others and myself and be on the way to start living again.”

WEDNESDAY
– The Manitowoc County Court has received the written stipulation from the former candidate for Manitowoc’s 1st Aldermanic District. Theresa Schmitt was facing charges in a theft case at the Manitowoc Walmart, but the State has moved to dismiss her felony charge and amend the other charge to retail theft. As a part of the stipulation, Schmitt was found “Guilty due to a No Contest plea” on that retail theft charge. The court has ordered her to pay a $330.50 fine, and all court costs by May 19th, or to spend seven days in the County Jail.
– The Two Rivers City Council met on Monday, where they approved a resolution to protest what they termed “inequities” in the distribution of funds from the American Rescue Plan. Click here to learn more about the complaints the City Council has with the plan.

– With Wisconsin wildfire season underway, the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) reminds Wisconsinites to be fire smart this spring and get their free DNR annual burning permit. While spring is always much-welcomed after Wisconsin’s long winters, seasonal warm and dry conditions can result in increased wildfire activity.
THURSDAY

– Charlie Berens was vaccinated by the Manitowoc County Health Department on Wednesday. Berens said we showing up for the “free shots”, but when he learned they were not serving bourbon or whiskey, he would settle on “da COVID deal”.
FRIDAY

– In observance of National Donate Life Month, Holy Family Memorial (HFM) held a flag-raising ceremony at the HFM Medical Center. The ceremony was done to commemorate those who have received or continue to wait for lifesaving transplants, as well as the families of individuals who chose to be donors.
