The VA has retracted a change they made during the COVID pandemic.
While on WOMT’S Be My Guest Program, a listener asked Manitowoc County Veteran Service Officer Todd Brehmer, “Why is it that the VA has stopped sending bills to veterans?”
Brehmer said the VA had good intentions with the change they made during the pandemic, but they made a mistake.
“When the COVID first rolled out, people were losing their jobs, they were being laid off, there was no work,” he explained. “The VA thought they would basically defer the co-payments. Where the VA failed is they stopped sending statements.”
And as Brehmer explained, when something is out of sight, it is also out of mind, resulting in many veterans receiving massive bills.
“The VA…is going to wave all that,” Brehmer revealed. “They realized they made a great big mistake, and they caused a burden to the veterans as opposed to a benefit.”
On top of waiving the payments, Brehmer explained that they are also going to be issuing reimbursements to veterans who did pay during the pandemic.
If you have any questions about your VA bills, simply call the clinic or hospital that you visit, and they will help you.
