The Two Rivers City Council met on Monday, where they approved a resolution to protest what they termed “inequities” in the distribution of funds from the American Rescue Plan.
This plan, which President Joe Biden signed earlier this month, allocates funds to municipalities based on population.
City Manager Greg Buckley told Seehafer News, “Our concern is within the money made available for local governments, we see smaller, non-metropolitan cities, like Two Rivers and Manitowoc, getting the equivalent of $99 per capita. Where as some of our only slightly larger counterparts, such as Sheboygan, Green Bay, Appleton, are seeing significantly more aid, at least in per capita terms.”
For example, Buckley said that Sheboygan is getting close to $500, Green Bay is getting around $300, and Appleton is getting $200, all per capita. Two Rivers would be getting around $1.1 million while Manitowoc is slotted to get $3.4 million.
Buckley said that while opinions of the American Rescue Plan may differ, but “The fact is, the smaller communities like ours are not getting a proportionate portion of the funding.”
Part of the American Rescue Plan was the third round of stimulus money that has continues to be distributed to citizens across the country.
