The Manitowoc County Court has received the written stipulation from the former candidate for Manitowoc’s 1st Aldermanic District.
Theresa Schmitt was facing charges in a theft case at the Manitowoc Walmart, but the State has moved to dismiss her felony charge and amend the other charge to retail theft.
As a part of the stipulation, Schmitt was found “Guilty due to a No Contest plea” on that retail theft charge.
The court has ordered her to pay a $330.50 fine, and all court costs by May 19th, or to spend seven days in the County Jail.
Schmitt told Seehafer News that she was checking out in the self-checkout lanes and that there was a malfunction in the system, leading to her being charged.
She did drop out of the election, but her name will still appear on the ballot, as it is too late to have it removed.
