The Manitowoc County Health Department reported the largest spike in COVID-19 cases we have had throughout March, but there is a perfectly good explanation as to why.
These numbers include data from March 23rd and March 24th due to a technical error that prevented new stats from being reported. 15 new cases came in over those two days, but the death toll remained stagnant.
This brings those totals up to 7,329 confirmed cases, and 67 deaths, while the number of people who are seeking treatment for COVID in area hospitals rose by three to 32.
On the vaccination front, things are continuing to look good, as 781 more shots were administered yesterday. Of those shots, 637 went into the arms of first-time patients. In total, 34,153 shots of either the Pfizer, Moderna, or Johnson & Johnson vaccines have been administered, with 21,772 people getting at least one dose.
Manitowoc County continues to be incredibly effective at administering vaccines, as they have vaccinated 27.6% of county residents, compared to the state average of 26.3%.
In Sheboygan County, 14 new cases were confirmed yesterday, along with only five recoveries. This brings their pandemic totals up to 13,185 cases, 12,900 recoveries, and leaves 152 cases active. Their death toll also remained stagnant at 133.
