The Manitowoc Common Council unanimously approved another State of Emergency for the city during a special meeting last night.
City Council President Eric Sitkiewitz told Seehafer News that the declaration has no effect on any local mask mandates or social distancing guidelines.
“With the new Stimulus package being signed, it requires an Emergency Declaration to go after some of those funding sources,” He explained. However, if the state puts in a mask mandate, the city will follow suit.
That being said, Sitkiewitz said, “It’s nothing above and beyond what the city has currently doing.”
The mandate that is in place locally only affects city-owned buildings and is set to expire on April 30th.
If the state does not extend their mask mandate, Sitkiewitz said the Council will meet to determine if they will extend their own, or if they will let it expire.
