“We are here for the community. There’s no excuse for something like this to happen.”
Those words from Tina Nichols is the Executive Director of the Lakeshore Humane Society in Manitowoc. She was referring to a recent case of animal abuse discovered at a residence in the 800 block of Buffalo Street earlier this week.
“This dog was left in the house. These ferrets were left for months unattended,” she stated. “Someone In this group-a neighbor-friend-a family member had to suspect something was wrong. If you do, please contact somebody.”
Nichols said that if law enforcement is called, they can do a welfare check, and “If there is a concern that an animal is not being properly cared for police will go to check on the animal and make sure everything’s ok.”
22-year-old Aysha Carbon was taken into custody and faces multiple charges.
Nichols adds animal abuse is, unfortunately, more common than one may think and more times than not goes unreported. She says if you feel or suspect that something may be wrong “it probably is.”
