Milwaukee Brewers manager Craig Counsell is ending the speculation by naming Brandon Woodruff his starter for the 2021 season opener against Minnesota.
There had been some talk that last year’s spectacular performance by Corbin Burnes will result in him throwing the first pitch but he will go in game-two.
Woodruff becomes the first Brewer to be the Opening Day starter two years in a row since Yovani Gallardo, who actually had that honor for five straight openers.
Counsell is less firm about who follows his big two of Woodruff and Burnes. He has said he will go with a five-man rotation but could switch to six at times.
Rookie of the Year Devin Williams is scheduled to see his first Spring Training action Saturday.
