Just a week after Theresa Schmit dropped out of the race for Manitowoc’s 3rd Aldermanic District, another candidate has withdrawn their candidacy.
At the Candidates Forum last night (March 18th) hosted by the Citizens Advisory Committee, Theresa Collins announced that she will no longer be campaigning to represent District 3.
During her opening statement, Collins claimed that she has been the target of harassment during her campaign.
“The bullying that I have experienced over the last couple of months of this campaign, I can assure you, is much worse than what you may have seen even publicly,” she explained. “It has gone far beyond something that I am willing to subject myself and my family to.”
She went on to claim, “Several members of the current council have sent a strong message which has inspired some pretty aggressive behavior from their followers. Strong and opinionated women are not welcome here.”
Both Schmit and Collins will still be on the ballot as it is too late to remove their names.
In-person voting for the Spring Election will be held on April 6th.
