Manitowoc Lincoln is off to a 3-and-1 start so far in the Alternate Spring Girls Volleyball season.
Under the guidance of head coach Mary Beth Dixon who is in her 20th season at the school and 38th year overall, the Ships began practice just two weeks ago.
“They are making such great improvement,” Dixon told Seehafer News. “It’s something we go through every year, but when it’s happening in the fall, not that you don’t remember they are seniors, but you are going to see them for another half of a year. Now it’s the end of the school year.”
Coach Dixon said even during virtual instruction this winter she communicated with her players to pass along workout materials. She praised the players saying, “I think the kids did a good job with that. They worked out, we did some fall tournaments, and then were off for a while…and finally when basketball started, we were told unless something happened we would be back in the spring, and the kids thought ‘Yes. This is going to work.’”
The Ships only match loss thus far was to Kimberly Monday night in a very close 4-setter. Dixon said a majority of those errors were on the players and could be fixed, so they “Had a little talk the night after about some of our errors.”
However, Dixon said seeing them “play at the level they played at was exciting to see,” especially since they have only really been together for two weeks.
Lincoln senior setter, Lauren Delmore, competed in basketball as well, and is grateful for another opportunity.
“I’m really glad that we get to play certainly because volleyball is one of my favorite sports,” Delmore stated. “We want to finish at the top of the conference, but we need to keep fighting for that.”

Fellow senior, Brooke Parrish, echoed the drive to be Conference champs, but said that it will be tough because they have such a young team.
“We have been working really hard in practice especially because we have a younger team,” she explained. “A lot of these girls came up from JV last year, and we have been helping them a lot.”
The Ships travels to Green Bay Preble tonight (March 18th) for an FRCC match with the Hornets.
For home matches in this shortened season, each player is allotted 4-tickets for parents, family members, and friends.
