Throughout the country, violent crimes against Asian Americans are on the rise.
This came to a deadly climax in Atlanta earlier this week when a man killed eight people at spas in the city, with six of them being Asian American women.
While there have not been any major cases of discrimination locally, the Appleton Police Department has made it very clear, “Hate has no home here.”
In an emotional Facebook post, Chief Todd Thomas wrote, “As a community, Asian Americans have been rooted in our community for generations, and they need to know that we all condemn this violence and acts of hate.”
The rise in Anti-Asian American sentiment is reported to be linked to the Chinese origin of the COVID-19 virus.
