You never truly know who you are talking to when you communicate online. A Columbia County man learned this the hard way, as he was stabbed while going to meet who he thought was a woman he had been talking to online on Monday (March 15th).
Calumet County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to a home in Hilbert for a welfare check of a man believed to be in danger. One man, later identified as 30-year-old Juan Pablo Cruz, answered the door and denied being in any trouble when a second man emerged from the basement, covered in blood.
The victim was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The Deputies learned that the victim had driven to Calumet Country from Columbia County to meet up with a woman he had been talking to online, but instead met Cruz.
Cruz forced him into a car, where he was stabbed, before taking him to the home in Hilbert.
A second suspect was arrested yesterday in Brillion, but that person’s name has not been released.
