A Green Bay man that served his country during World War II is about to turn 100 years old, and the assisted living facility he is living in is trying to get 100 veterans to send him birthday cards to mark the occasion.
Loren Thiede joined the U.S. Coast Guard at the age of 19, and by the next year, was escorting ships across the ocean to England. Thiede also spent 30-years as a truck driver before retiring.
He now resides at Heartland Hospice in De Pere. While some birthday cards have already started to come in, but if you wish to also with Thiede a happy 100th birthday, you can send a card to:
