Men, women, and machines start working Monday as Green Bay Packaging’s new $500-million paper mill begins operations.
This is the first new paper mill to go online in Wisconsin in 30 years.
Company leaders say the previous facility was 71 years old and the machinery was outdated.
The new mill preserves 11,00 jobs for the region, and another 200 could be added in the next few years.
It is environmentally friendly, using treated wastewater in its production process so none is released into the Fox River and two natural gas boilers are replacing the old plant’s coal-fired boiler.
Production capacity will also be tripled.
