A candidate on the Spring Election Ballot in Manitowoc’s 1st Aldermanic District has dropped out of the race.
As we reported yesterday, Theresa Schmitt has a plea hearing scheduled for today in a theft case from last year.
We reached out to Schmitt for comment, and she told us there is more to the story than what was in the police report. She said that she was never arrested, but rather charged with the two counts of retail theft, one felony, and one misdemeanor.
Schmitt claims that during the first incident that was included in the police report, an associate was standing next to her as she was doing the self-checkout, and some of the “beeps were different, and one item was missed. She claims the associate pointed it out, Schmitt offered to pay for it, but ended up giving it back.
She also said that “some of the charges are getting dropped”, because “Walmart lied about certain things.” However, she also said she was “given a deal” where she paid some money to Walmart, which Schmitt said she paid months ago.
We will be reaching out to the Court after her 10:00 AM hearing to get more information on what was decided.
