Members of the Manitowoc Lutheran High School Boys Basketball team were honored by their coaches with season-end awards Sunday night.
Receiving the Lancer Award for Christian Leadership was senior Ben Thoma. Coach Scott Loberger commented, “So many guys on the team were also deserving of this award. The Christian character that was shown throughout the season was awesome.”
Senior Nathaniel Luebke was named Offensive MVP. Loberger said, “Even with missing multiple games due to injury and then needing multiple games to recover and build confidence, Nathaniel led our team in points per minute and was one player teams had to make adjustments for in their defensive schemes.”
Junior August Hecker was selected Defensive MVP. Loberger continued, “August was almost always granted the joy of guarding our opponent’s best guard or small forward. He was that solid defender that saw the whole floor, and we needed him on the floor. He also led the team in steals.”
As for Big East recognition, Loberger commented, “the conference agreed it was tough to pick guys from our team for this award because we were so balanced, and on any given night a number of different players could really hurt them. But, wanting to acknowledge our team’s success, we were granted two awards: August Hecker was named to the All-Big East second team, while Nathaniel Luebke was accorded Honorable Mention.
