Wausau city officials expect to complete the purchase of a seven-acre piece of property next to a wastewater treatment plant next month.
A solar array would be built on the property to provide about 40-percent of the power needed to operate the plant.
It’s possible the city would buy more property later to make the solar array larger.
Wausau is planning to use all of the electricity created by the solar panels to power the plant. Every other similar project sells some of its power back to a utility.
City officials say they expect the work to be completed next year.
