“I’m excited! I know that our students are excited and our staff is ready to go!” says Manitowoc Public Schools Superintendent Mark Holzman says for the first time since the onset of the pandemic closed schools March 20th of last year.
The District will offer 100 percent in person learning starting Monday.
Holzman goes on, “The District will continue to require students and staff to properly wear masks in school, and all efforts will be made to ensure social distancing where possible in our buildings.”
We asked Holzman how many families chose to keep their children learning virtually. “We’re seeing about 12 percent of our families will continue to stay in a full-time virtual model saying it works better for them.”
The Manitowoc Superintendent says testing is available for any teacher exhibiting symptoms.
“We would ask them to stay home. They’d then come in and get swabbed in a drive-thru setting and results would be available in 24 hours but we aren’t doing any random testing. I expect all of our staff who is healthy to return.”
Holzman is confident that with all the proper planning and preparation they’ll be able to finish the school year with students on campus with plans to hold Lincoln’s traditional outdoor Bowl Graduation in mid-June.
He adds that “We can’t thank families and our local health heroes enough for the sacrifices you have made in the past year so MPSD could do our part to stem the spread the community spread of this deadly virus.”
