The Manitowoc woman accused of driving drunk the morning she crashed her car and killed her 9-year-old granddaughter has pleaded not guilty.
51-year-old Monica Walker entered that plea on a Drunk Driving charge, but she is also charged with Homicide by Intoxicated Use of a Motor Vehicle.
Walker and Tkyia Brewer were traveling to Green Bay on I-43 the morning of February 8th, when Walker hit a patch of ice, and lost control. Brewer was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene.
After the crash, Walker told police that she was eating a burger at the time and that she did not find the drunk driving charge fair because she hadn’t been drinking that day. She had been out until until about 8 and a half hours prior to the crash, however.
Walker is next scheduled to be in Manitowoc County Court on April 16th for a settlement conference.
