Governor Tony Evers along with several local and state dignitaries toured the Manitowoc County Community COVID-19 Vaccination Clinic this morning at the Expo Center.
More than 1 million people in Wisconsin have received at least one dose of the vaccine and the Governor commented on the County Health Department recently administering their 5000th dose, “It’s really hard and sometimes controversial work in Emergency Services and Public Health at the local level. They’re the ones quite frankly who have to pull it all together. Great work and thank you!”
Manitowoc County Health Officer Stephanie Lambert says, “Success is achieved through coordination and collaboration. From the very beginning of this pandemic a strong partnership was formed between Public Health and Emergency Management. It was this alliance that helped plan and operate the clinic you see here today.”
Manitowoc County Emergency Services Director Travis Waack also said a few words, “We were literally putting shots in people’s arms within 24 hours of receiving our initial allocation of vaccine. As we celebrate our 5000th dose it’s truly amazing.”
Department of Health Services Interim Secretary Karen Timberlake comments, “Many people thought outside the box to come together and help deliver this great vaccine to make people of Manitowoc County be safe today and into the future.”
Despite all the great news Timberlake and the Governor remind everyone that we’re still in the middle of a pandemic and we can’t let our collective guard down. All must continue to wear masks, social distance, limit large gatherings and maintain good hygiene which includes washing your hands for at least 20 seconds with warm-soapy water.
Also on hand were County Executive Bob Ziegelbauer and 25th assembly District Representative Paul Tittl.
