Sometimes you just need an eye in the sky.
That is why the Wisconsin State Patrol has announced that they will be utilizing aerial assistance to crack down on speeding in Brown County today (March 4th).
Authorities say they will be utilizing a device known as a Visual Average Speed Computer and Recorder, or VASCAR, to help catch people who are speeding or driving recklessly or aggressively on I-43. If a pilot sees someone acting this way, they will inform ground units to initiate a traffic stop.
If weather conditions are unfavorable for flying, ground-based units will be used to enforce traffic laws.
WisDOT says excessive speed was a factor in nearly 600 deaths in the state in 2020.
