Hundreds of Manitowoc Public School District teachers and staff are receiving their first dose of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine before students return to school full-time on Monday.
Superintendent Mark Holzman said, “We have a partnership with Holy Family Memorial that’s been weeks in the making. Hundreds of our staff who are interested will have the opportunity to receive their first dose with the second coming 21 days after.”
Vaccinations spaned from ten hours today and again for eight hours on Saturday.
Holzman goes on, “Everybody feels different about their exposure. Some of the staff have already been vaccinated (those who were 1A eligible). We’re excited to extend this opportunity to anyone on our staff.”
The Manitowoc Public School District has not conducted 100 percent in-person learning since March 20th of last year. Holzman admits to some “butterflies” as Monday approaches.
“We’re trying to remain six feet apart and wear masks. There’s plenty of sanitization processes in place to keep kids and staff in a safe and stable environment. People will have the option of sending their children back to school or remain fully virtual for the remainder of the school year.”
