A recent surge of catalytic converter thefts in Manitowoc and Manitowoc County could be tied to drug purchases and addiction.
Lieutenant Dave Remiker is with the Manitowoc Metro County Drug Unit, and he said they, “conducted a search warrant at a house and saw several catalytic converters in his garage. Criminal activity generally involves drug purchases and/or addiction.”
Catalytic converters are made of platinum-based metals, which thieves covet bringing anywhere from $50 to $1000.
Remiker says Meth is getting more difficult to find in Lakeshore communities.
“The price of Meth has risen significantly plus the ability to find it is becoming more difficult,” Remiker explained. “Enforcement plus working with other community drug resource entities in town are giving people who deserve it to get the help they need.”
Anyone that may witness or have knowledge of any criminal or suspicious activity is encouraged to contact their local law enforcement agency immediately.
