The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources reports that hunters and trappers harvested 216 gray wolves during the season that ended Wednesday – way above the state-licensed goal.
The kills topped the established goals in all six wolf management units.
Other than Native American reservations, the harvest quota had been set at 119 statewide – so, the final take was 82-percent above that figure.
The pace of the kills took the D-N-R by surprise.
If the gray wolves remain in state control, the next wolf hunting and trapping season will begin November 6th.
