An inmate in the Manitowoc County Jail accused of smuggling in the fentanyl that killed another inmate has pleaded not guilty.
36-year-old Justin Hall was found dead in his cell on September 15th of last year, and it was determined that he died of an overdose.
The criminal complaint says that 32-year-old Jerid Hanson was arrested on September 13th after returning from a drug deal in Milwaukee.
At the time, he admitted to hiding some of the drugs in his body, but the officers missed some of it. He also admitted to giving some of the remaining drugs to Hall, which was seen on security camera footage.
Hansen told investigators he didn’t think he gave Hall enough to overdose and said that he was sorry. Despite all that, he entered a not guilty plea on a charge of First Degree Reckless Homicide, and three drug-related charges.
