Oshkosh Defense has been chosen to build at least 50,000 next-generation mail delivery vehicles for the U-S Postal Service.
The contract announced Tuesday is part of an effort to make the post office more environmentally friendly by switching a lot of its fleet to electric power.
The contract could be extended to 165,000 vehicles under the initial $482-million agreement.
The Postal Service plans to spend several billion dollars over the next 10 years to replace is fossil-fuel-powered vehicles.
