Since they opened their doors last year, the Meijer location in Manitowoc has been integrating into the community through donations to local food pantries.
Earlier this month, they announced a $2,500 donation to Grow it Forward to help continue to help area residents.
We spoke with Store Director Jarrett Boyer, who explained that the relationship between their business began around Christmas when Grow it Forward was looking to put together a meal for local families.
“When they came into the store to pick up the donation, they said something that really resonated with me,” Boyer said. “Everything that they get, they find a way to repurpose it down to any way that they can use it. I thought that was really important.”
A month or so later, Boyer said they had some money available, so they decided to donate it to Grow it Forward.
“Since March, they have donated about 2 million pounds of food into the community,” Boyer explained. “[It’s a] great partnership, and I knew it would be.”
In total, the Manitowoc location has donated $12,500 to local food pantries. $10,000 has gone to Peter’s Pantry, on top of the recent donation to Grow it Forward.
Boyer is very happy with how the Manitowoc Community has accepted them.
“We are excited to be a part of the Lakeshore community and excited to go into our first full summer season, and see all that this great the city has to offer,” he told Seehafer News. “It’s a lovely beach town. We’re just happy to be a partner in the community, especially in this time, when having another food option in town is important.”
Boyer may be a transplant into the city of Manitowoc, but he said the city “has been great to me”, and he is excited to get out and experience more of what the Clipper City has to offer this summer.
