Representative Shae Sortwell of Two Rivers has announced his joint authorship of a bill, which aims to reimburse Counties and Tribes for costs relating to individuals held in a county or tribal facility awaiting transfer to state prisons and making an appropriation.
He called it “unacceptable” that the Department of Corrections unloads the burden of holding the inmates onto the County Jails, claiming it cost Manitowoc County $18,000 a month.
Sortwell said in a news release, “These irresponsible actions by the Governor and his Department of Corrections must be addressed and fixed immediately.”
Sortwell is joined in the authorship of the bill by Senators Rob Stafsholt of New Richmond and Duey Stroebel of Saukville, as well as Representative Jesse James of Altoona.
