State Senator Andre Jacque continues to push a number of bills through the legislature, which he has done all year.
One of the bills is in relation to grants to counties for veterans services and making an appropriation. Currently, these grants are distributed to counties in four tiers based on each county’s overall population, but Jacque said these rates have not been increased in quite some time.
Another of the bills aims to equalize quarterly school aid payment distribution. This bill will increase the percentage of equalization aid distributed each September by 2 points each school year, and decreases the percentage of equalization aid distributed in June by 2 points each school year, until the 2025-26 school year.
The third bill in the trifecta is called the Disabled Veteran Sporting Opportunities Act. This bill aims to modify and standardize the disability rating required for a disabled veteran to qualify for certain authorizations issued by the Department of Natural Resources and for exemptions from certain admission fees.
