Tax relief for the self-employed and Wisconsin businesses hit hard by the pandemic could soon be on the way, thanks to legislation passed by the state Senate in a 27-5 vote.
State Sen. André Jacque of De Pere said the tax package includes relief for farms and small businesses to deduct health insurance costs from their income taxes, which he had introduced as separate legislation.
The provision conforms to existing exemptions at the federal level and those already enjoyed by larger corporations.
The legislation now heads to Governor Evers, who also included the small business health insurance cost deduction in his budget proposal.
