One of the two finalists for Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction superintendent has deleted her Twitter account and apologized for a message some took as being racist.
Deborah Kerr posted the message Tuesday saying she had been called a racial slur for Black people when she was 16 because her lips were bigger than most others. Kerr is white.
She says her tweet came in response to another educator’s post on racism. She apologized for what she called an “insensitive” tweet.
Kerr and Jill Underly were the two top vote-getters in Tuesday’s primary – and they will complete for the top job in the general election on April 6th.
