This week we have been shining a spotlight on three local hockey teams who are looking to prove that they are the best team in their respective divisions, as they prepare to head off to the State Tournament next month.
On Monday we heard with members of the Manitowoc Breakers Squirt C Hockey team, who are headed to State next month. Today we take a look at the Squirt B Team, which is coached by Matt Kadow.
He called the season exciting, despite a slow start.
“We started by kind of getting pounded,” Kadow said bluntly. “Our first two games were double-digit losses, but then…they went on a 17 game unbeaten streak. To watch them play their best hockey in games that were ties or losses is quite impressive, knowing that there is a lot of room for growth and competitiveness with them.”
Player Lewis Kamien told Seehafer News that he really liked playing in the tournaments throughout the year, especially in the Championship games.
“It feels good because you know you can bring home something to prove that you went somewhere and tried,” Kamien said.
This is Lewis’ first trip to the State tournament, but that is not the case for Brayden Lyons. He was on a State-bound team last year, who came in second. We asked Brayden what his favorite part of the season was, and he was quick to answer, “Making it to the championships.”
The Breakers will battle the other top teams in Wisconsin starting March 6th.
