The leader of Manitowoc Lutheran High School’s “Building Our Future On Christ” Campaign says their Steering Committee would like to begin the expansion project by next summer.
Manitowoc Lutheran High School President, Pastor Norval Kock, tells Seehafer News they had a good start to the multi-million dollar campaign “and then Covid-19 came around.”
Kock says, “And so that basically put a halt to those visits. The total that’s been pledged or received amounts to roughly $2.4 million dollars right now.”
He says they’ve met with hundreds of past donors and supporters of the school. Kock explains the initial proposal was to build a new larger gymnasium and convert the existing gym into a chapel and an auditorium. But, the plan has been adjusted.
“After the decision was made in 2018 to proceed with a campaign a new site committee was formed to re-examine the plan and that led to building a new gym, leaving the existing gym the way it is and including a new chapel in the addition.”
He added the committee has to determine how much of the project cost they’ll need to finance and said they made the decision to go to the next phase of the project.
“So we are starting to talk more about breaking ground and starting the building process in the summer of 2022 and that’s why the fundraising in the coming weeks and months is going to be critical.
The expansion when it’s completed will enlarge the current campus facilities by approximately 40%.
