The former chairman of the Milwaukee Fire and Police Commission has submitted his letter of resignation.
Steven DeVougas kept his commission seat after he was replaced by Nelson Soler last year.
He offered praise for the rest of the commission but pointed to what he calls a “concerted effort” to undermine the credibility and authority of the commission.
DeVougas says “powers that be” want to weaken the commission to keep it from pushing for change and from holding people accountable.
During his time on the board, DeVougas has been at the center of controversy.
He has denied any wrongdoing.
