“It is exciting, and we are ready. There are lots of pieces to that, which includes the safety and wellbeing of our students and staff, but we are excited about our students coming back.”
Those words from Manitowoc Public School District Superintendent Mark Holzman announcing yesterday that all students in grades 4k through 12 will return to in-person learning five days a week beginning Monday, March 8th.
“When we do come back, it will look a little different,” Holzman explained. “We are trying to do our best to mitigate, and make sure we are socially distancing, with cleaning and protocols are in place.”
Holzman adds that vastly better COVID 19 statistics are part of the reason for moving forward.
“We’ve seen our community health continue to improve,” he told Seehafer News. “We see our Burden Rate close to 300. When we left back in October to go to fully virtual, we were at 1,200.”
Another reason is that around 50 district employees have received the first dose of the vaccine.
Mask wearing will be required for all who enter district buildings and social distancing will be observed whenever possible.
A survey will be sent to families to determine whether they prefer in-person or virtual learning. Those feeling uncomfortable returning can continue learning virtually.
