Recently Gov. Tony Evers proclaimed February 11th as “2-1-1 Day,” which is a day of observance for United Way’s free 24/7 helpline.
The helpline connects individuals in need and those looking to give. You can make use of the helpline by dialing or texting 211, or going to 211now.org. Experts are on the other side of the line and can provide a wide range of assistance, no matter the situation. They listen to the caller, identify underlying problems, find housing and shelter, provide resources for mental health and addictions, help with utility payments and access to food, and more.
Last year, there were 1372 inquiries to the helpline in Manitowoc County alone, which is a 97% increase from the year before. Most of the calls were in direct relation to the COVID-19 pandemic
To celebrate, United Way Manitowoc County held a 211 Day Lunch and Learn, and they are encouraging donors to give $21.10 or $211 to reach their goal of $2110.
