The candidates looking to represent Manitowoc’s 7th Aldermanic District were on the radio yesterday, where they held a debate, moderated by Brian Norton.
Incumbent Aaron Bailey and challengers Tim Boldt and Scott Pelott all participated in person in the WOMT and WCUB Studios, where Norton asked them why they are running.
Bailey said it is about representation.
“This is an opportunity to make more of an impact,” Bailey explained. “I’m more of an active than reactive person, so what I am doing is trying to set the foundation to build more in the community, and not wait for an opportunity to open up.”
Bodlt disclosed he moved back to the Clipper City after being away for a while and noticed a lot of positive changes.
“I’ve always been a person to not want to sit back and watch from the sidelines,” Boldt said. “I think it is my time now to help out District 7, and to provide the type of leadership I was given when I joined the Air Force, take that, and provide it to our City streets.”
Pelott also noted the changes made to the city, specifically in the downtown area.
“I traveled all around the country for wrestling tournaments, and it always seems that the focus is the downtown,” Pelott stated. “I actually reviewed the Downtown Master Plan, and a lot of the issues and things they have set in this plan are things that I think are awesome.”
The candidate field will be narrowed to two in the Spring Primary, which is scheduled for next Tuesday February 16th. Also on the ballot for District 3, are candidates Theresa Collins, Mike Cummings, and Angela Meyers. The top two vote getters from each district will join candidates for Districts 1, 2, and 10, and the Mayorship.
Mayor Justin Nickels is being challenged by Chris Able, while Alderman Brett Vanderkin in District 1 being challenged by Theresa S. Schmitt, and Chad Beeman is running unopposed in District 2.
The General Election is scheduled for April 6th.
