G-O-P members on the state’s Joint Finance Committee are rewarding schools for holding in-person classes with $66-million in federal education grants.
Co-chair Senator Howard Marklein says schools that had students in the building should be rewarded for it. He says it also provides an incentive for those schools that are not currently open to in-person instruction.
But Democrat Senator Jon Erpenbach says this is merely a punishment against local school boards following the wills of their districts.
Another $615-million is being sent directly to school districts by the federal government.
