The Wisconsin Department of Justice has identified a 30-year-old West Bend man as the shooter in last week’s Kewaskum incident that left three people dead.
Investigators say Nicholas S. Pingel was killed by a Washington County Sheriff’s deputy, and that he is the only suspect in the crime spree that led up to the Wednesday gun battle.
Criminal records show Pingel has spent most of the last four years in jails. He had been released from prison on December 1st.
Family members say he had struggled with substantial mental health issues and had stopped taking his medication.
