The Manitowoc County Board met last night and unanimously approved a pair of resolutions.
County Board Chairman Jim Brey tells Seehafer News that the first authorizes the jail visitation project remodeling commitment of an unauthorized fund balance. Brey explains the jail is definitely in need of improving technology and space requirements for the $250,000 remodel requested in the 2021 budget by Sheriff Dan Hartwig.
“Unfortunately the five bids were let and the lowest came in at $337,000, essentially a shortage of about $100,000,” Brey explained. “The finance committee approved the transfer from undesignated reserve funds and the project will go through.”
The chairman added it’s a great project for the jail and the county stated he is “glad it’s moving forward.”
Also part of the 2021 budget is an upgrade for the 9-1-1 Joint Dispatch Center to allow voice, photos, and video, and text messages as part of the Next Gen system. Brey explains it will be done at a cost-saving.
“As the process went along Public Works Department under the direction of Gerry Neuser discovered a grant was available from the state to offset the costs,” Brey told Seehafer News. “So, they applied for it and received an approximately $105,000 grant.”
The two resolutions were passed 21-0, with 4 members absent from the meeting.
