Promising hitter Keston Hiura will spend spring training learning the ins and outs of playing first base.
He’s moving over after the Brewers signed free agent Gold Glove second basemen Kolten Wong.
Hiura was one of the worst defensive second basemen in Major League Baseball since coming up from the minors, but he carries a big bat. He hit just .212 last season, but that was following a 2019 campaign that saw him finished with a .303 batting average and a .938 O-P-S – that’s about 200 points above average.
In addition to learning how to play “D” at first base, the 24-year-old will try to reduce his strikeout rate of 32 percent, while continuing to knock the ball out of the park every 18.5 at-bats.
