A local Squirt C hockey team utilized a huge third period on Saturday to punch their ticket to the WAHA State Tournament.
The Manitowoc Breakers were down 3-0 entering the final stanza, and traded goals early with Oshkosh, but scored three unanswered goals to send the game to overtime.
No goals were scored in the first overtime period, but with 6:47 left in the second overtime period, Center Nick Hyde took the faceoff in the Breakers offensive zone. He stickhandled around the opposing center, and rifled a shot into the net, securing the come-from-behind win for the Breakers.
Hyde ended up with 4 of the goals on the day followed by Trevor Pinkerton with 1. Cole Neuser added an assist and Colt Wernli stopped 28 of the 32 shots he faced.
The state tournament will begin on March 6th for these young ice hounds.
