– The Sheboygan Police Department is looking for some more information about a shooting that occurred over the weekend. The incident occurred just before 10:00 PM on Saturday in the 1300 block of Ashland Avenue. TUESDAY
– Manitowoc County Health Department is encouraging family and friends to help older adults or those without internet to sign up for vaccine appointments. While the workers manning the phones at the Health Department are willing and able to help those who need help, they are swamped with calls, according to Emergency Services Director Travis Waack. To stay informed about vaccine efforts in Manitowoc County, please visit the Health Department’s website, which is co.manitowoc.wi.us/vaccine.
– Lakeshore Community Action Program, or Lakeshore Cap, has received a $25,000 grant which allows them to partner up with The Crossing to help support families in need. According to Colleen Homb, the Director of Lakeshore CAP, this money will go toward providing supplies for baby and young child supplies for needy families. -Only a few months after expanding their business into Two Rivers, Hartman’s Bakery now has a third location. The new bakery located at 201 East Mill Street in Plymouth, and recently opened after beginning renovations to the building late last year.
– The Forst Inn Arts Collective has announced a season of theatre, music, and fun events beginning in March at its’ venue in Tisch Mills. Event information is available at forstinn.org.
WEDNESDAY
– The Manitowoc man who delivered the heroin that killed a man in January of last year has been sentenced. After pleading no contest to a charge of Manufacturing or Delivering Heroin, 49-year-old Dale Wilhelm will spend two years in prison, followed by two years on extended supervision, as ordered by Judge Jerilyn Dietz.
– An arrest has been made in an odd theft spree in Sheboygan County. An unnamed man was arrested by the Sheboygan County Sheriff’s Department after he allegedly stole catalytic converters off of vehicles. A Sheriff’s Deputy pulled a vehicle over on Highway 42 late last week and noticed burglary tools in the vehicle, along with one of the vehicle parts.
– With the spring primary election only a couple of weeks away, WOMT and Cub Radio have scheduled a pair of debates (presented by Novak’s Service Center) between the candidates for the District 3 and District 7 Common Council seats. The first of these debates will take place on Tuesday, February 9th between Theresa Collins, Mike Cummings, and Angela Myers, who are all vying to represent District 3. Then, on Thursday February 11th, Incumbent Aaron Bailey, will square off against Scott Pelot and Tim Boldt, who are looking to represent District 7. Both debates will air from 1:00 to 2:00 PM on 107.9 FM WOMT and on 97.1 FM WCUB.

THURSDAY
– While he remains at large, charges have officially been filed against the teen suspect in the Fox Cities Mall shooting case. 17-year-old Dezman Ellis has been charged with 1st Degree Intentional Homicide and 1st Degree Recklessly Endangering Safety, which was necessary in order to enlist the help of the U.S. Marshals Service.
– The S.S. Badger Carferry is now accepting reservations for the 2021 sailing season. The Badger will run from May 20th through October 10th between Manitowoc and Ludington Michigan for the first time under its new ownership. Those looking to book a trip across Lake Michigan can do so at SSBadger.com.
– Novak’s Service Center is stepping up a second time to provide for those putting the extra mile during the pandemic. Owner Jeremiah Novak says they’re donating $10,000 of free oil changes to local healthcare workers plus an additional $5,000 in free oil changes for those in the hospitality industry.
– Cedar Crest Ice Cream has revealed the winner and finalists for their 2020 Flavor Creation Contest. The winner was the Country Clover 4-H club out of Green Lake County, which came up with Tractor Tracks. This flavor features chocolate ice cream, peanut butter cups, and a swirl of marshmallow.
FRIDAY
– The teenager who was being sought after he allegedly shot and killed a 19-year-old man has been arrested. 17-year-old Dezman Ellis was taken into custody at around 3:30 PM in Des Moines Iowa Thursday afternoon (February 4th) without incident.
– A sentence has been handed down to a 23-year-old Manitowoc man in a high-speed chase case from 2019. Judge Jerilyn Dietz has sentenced Jacob P. Hetue to five years in prison, with an additional five in extended supervision after he was convicted on charges of Fleeing or Eluding an Officer, Possession of Amphetamine with Intent to Deliver, and Resisting or Obstructing an Officer.
-Despite the slick roadways and high winds, it was actually a pretty safe night on the roads. We reached out to the Manitowoc Police Department who said they did not have a single crash reported to them overnight. It was the same situation in Two Rivers, with the Shift Commander LT. John Reimer saying, “Knock on wood…we won’t have any accidents today.”
-The Manitowoc Public Library will reopen Wednesday, February 17th at 9:00 AM. In a news release, they state that the declining pattern of COVID 19 cases throughout Manitowoc County was the main reason for deciding to reopen. They will be operating under reduced hours.
