Throughout the month of February, Holy Family Memorial (HFM) will be going red for American Heart Month.
HFM Harbor Town Campus, HFM Lakefront Campus, and the HFM Medical Center will be lit up in red to increase awareness about heart disease.
According to the American Heart Association, heart disease is the leading cause of death of men and women in the United States. About 655,000 Americans die from heart disease each year—that’s one in four deaths.
Although the statistics are alarming, Dr. Matthew Gentile, a cardiologist at HFM Heart & Vascular Center, says the good news is that people can prevent heart disease can by making healthier lifestyle choices to reduce their risk factors.
Some simple tips to reduce your risk include scheduling regular check-ups, quitting smoking, eating a healthy diet, maintaining a healthy weight, exercising, lowering your blood pressure, and controlling your blood sugar level.
