Some health officials are saying the new Coronavirus variants make the next six weeks crucial.
SeehaferNews.com posed this question to Manitowoc County Emergency Services Director Travis Waack. Is he concerned about the variants having an effect locally? He explained that “they can lead to an increase or spike in cases temporarily if those variants become a dominant strain in a certain area.” Waack also said, “certainly a variant could become a dominant strain in Wisconsin, or even in Manitowoc County. It may result in another spike like we saw in November. Obviously, we don’t want to see that. The more people getting the vaccine helps prevent the spread, helps prevent the variants.” The County’s Emergency Services Director emphasized the fundamental prevention measures being very important.
That means wearing masks, social distancing, and avoiding crowds. He added all of these precautions help prevent variants from taking hold in a certain area.
