Officials in the University of Wisconsin Athletics Department are reporting the coronavirus pandemic has caused losses of $47-million.
U-W officials say they have been constantly looking for ways to save more money. Revenue losses for the 2021 fiscal year budget would have been $73-million if not for the cutbacks.
Moving forward, Wisconsin has no plans to cut any of the 23 sports offered in Madison. It’s the way they manage their resources and the culture and approach used for decades.
Voluntary pay cuts have helped. Salary expenses were 49% of last year’s budget, but down to 39% through December this year.
