The GOP-controlled State Assembly has what 25th Assembly District Representative Paul Tittl of Manitowoc says “paused” on voting to repeal Governor Evers’ mask mandate.
He says, “Something came to light that we could lose up to $50 million per month in Federal money. We think the Senate attached something to one of the bills today and sent it over to us but we’re taking a closer look at it to make sure that we think we fixed it.”
Tittl on how these two entities are tied together, “The money is available when you have a declared emergency in your state. When you have a declared emergency you get this nearly $50 million to those in need. We just want to make sure we’re not throwing them under the bus just to fix this.”
The local lawmaker believes the source of that information came from the Legislative Audit Bureau yesterday. Many Republicans feel that the Governor has overstepped his legal bounds by continually extending his public health emergency beyond the sixty days required by law.
Evers has extended it four times since invoking it last August. Speaker Robin Vos says he still believed the Assembly would vote at some future date to repeal the mask mandate which expires March 20th.
